2012 will mark the 21st year for the Cill Rialaig Project, Ballinskelligs co Kerry

Cill Rialaig, the artists’ retreat that was founded by Dr Noelle Campbell Sharpe,in 1991, will celebrate its 21st year this September 21st, 2012, on World Culture Day. The retreat was built from the ruins of the abandoned village of Cill Rialaig which overlooks the Atlantic ocean and provides great inspiration to artists from around the world who have stayed there. The Cill Rialaig Art Centre is a gallery built with the purpose of exhibiting and selling the work of artists who have stayed at the retreat.

The Project is a non profit organisation, which does not charge for residencies, and does not have a website for reasons of privacy for the retreat. However the Art Centre does have a website www.cillrialaigartscentre.org

I came to Kerry first in 2003 for a residency at Cill Rialaig, which changed the direction of my work and also my life. As an artist, I am a huge supporter of the Project, as are so many artists who have been profoundly affected by their experience there

The event in September promises to be a memorable one, with artists returning from all over the world .There will be celebrations on the beach at Ballinskelligs and spontaneous shows and installations are being planned. More information will be available as plans are finalised
