Chaplin Film Festival 2012
Charlie Chaplin Comedy Film Festival
This year’s film festival will be in August 23rd to 26th in Waterville co Kerry. The village was Chaplin’s favourite holiday destination with his wife Oona O Neill and all their children for many years. He loved fishing and the friendly atmosphere, where his celebrity went unnoticed. His daughter Josephine gave permission to Waterville to set up the first Chaplin film festival in the world, in 2011
Last year’s festival was a great success, with many of Chaplin films presented and screened in Fossett’s circus Big Top, including ’The Circus’. The film was introduced by Chaplin’s biographer, David Robinson, followed by a trapeze act. This created an extraordinary effect. The festival also includes a comedy short film competition. This year a distinguished visitor to the festival will be Jack Garfein, a veteran Hollywood director, who famously coached James Dean and Marilyn Monroe
