Summer workshops 2014
I attended two extraordinary printmaking workshops in August at Clo Cill Rialaig, the first with the Scottish master printer Tony Kirk, and the second with the renowned New York artists, Kiki Smith and Valerie Hammond. Tony Kirk brought a new and revolutionary intaglio process which involved using photopolymer plates which uses the sun’s rays to etch the plates, dispensing with acids and solvents. The plates were placed outdoors on a cloudy day and were etched within 20 minutes. A very exciting process
Kiki Smith and Valerie Hammond, both in residence at the artists retreat, introduced a Print and Publish technique, using paint, print and collage to create individual booklets or catalogues. Ive been using it ever since to create individual little painting books
The workshops were organised and expertly assisted by master printer Stephen O Connell
